Lighthouse Church

Our Story

‘On March 4, 1990, Lighthouse Christian Fellowship began in a little rumpus room on the North Shore of Auckland, New Zealand.’

By the grace of God, Senior Pastors James and Kim Lai with their son and daughter and a few others stepped out in faith to begin this new work. From the start Lighthouse was to be a church for all peoples. Over the years, the Lord has brought (and is still bringing) in people from many nations and from different backgrounds.

We are a church with a distinct family character and a passion for Jesus. It has always been our heart to know our Lord Jesus Christ more fully. We want to be an influence for Him, to inspire a momentum for the enlargement of His Kingdom.

With God’s enabling grace, today we meet in our own premises having rented two different school halls for many years.

Why ‘Lighthouse’

Senior Pastor James and Kim Lai wanted God’s confirmation before starting a new church in Auckland. And it came. Firstly, a couple from Hamilton came and talked about starting a church. Then a couple from Malaysia, headed for London but prompted by the Holy Spirit, detoured downunder to New Zealand to meet the Lais. On the night that they were praying together, the visitor said, ‘I see your feet on the shore…and a light shining…’

Our church was nameless for a month, until those words came back to Pastor James. This church would be known as ‘Lighthouse’, shining light out to the sea from the shore, guiding lost souls back to safety.
