Higher Goals

Ambitious. The definitions of this adjective include: an earnest desire for achievement; having a great desire to do something; something requiring exceptional effort or ability. Not a word normally associated with Christianity – how we view our faith, how we live our Christian lives. But it should be, according to the Apostle Paul (Philippians 3:12–14). We need to seek higher goals in Christ, to press towards them for the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Aiming Higher

We need to be spiritually ambitious – we are often ambitious for our earthly lives but not for our spiritual lives. Change that paradigm.

Higher Ambitious Spiritual Goals

What are our spiritual ambitions? What are our higher goals?  Identify and reach for higher personal spiritual goals (the main thrust of Philippians 3:12–14). and understand that as a local church we can collectively reach for higher corporate spiritual goals.

First Things First

His priority, our priority: Haggai Part 1 – the time to build (the Lord’s challenge to rise up and build now, including why we fail to be ambitious in the things of God, for His work.

His priority, our priority: Haggai Part 2 – the blessing of obedience (the Lord’s promise of provision as we obey His call to strive towards His higher goals).

Rewarding and rewarded

His priority, our priority: Haggai Part 3 – the promise of success (the Lord’s promise of the ultimate achievement of His higher goals if we obey and rise up to do).

Wider Roles

If we are ambitious for Christ, then we should not hold back but stretch out, reaching out for Him. Giving of ourselves, our time, our resources. Sharing life generously. Isaiah 52:2 – Do not spare, lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes. Proverbs 11:24,25 – the generous soul will be made rich.

Arms Open Wide

Lofty ambition with little action amounts to very little. Inspiration must be transformed into action in order to be useful, to be life changing. But acting on a higher goal, stretching it into a wider role comes at a cost...

Into the Faith Zone

If you want a wider role, you have to be willing to step out/stretch outside of your comfort zone, not sparing, having faith to go the extra mile, pushing the boundaries, daring to reach out.

A Heart in Serving

If you want a wider role, you have to be willing to step forward and serve, wider roles require service and sacrifice, motivated by agape (sacrificial love).

Extend the Borders

Extending the borders of our mantle, the kinsman redeemer (Ruth 3). Enlarging the place of our tent means extending the redemptive cover of Christ over our family and friends.

Extending the borders of our mantle, to redeem our family and friends through Christ, requires us to undertake the ministry of reconciliation and to speak the word of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:18,19).

Do & Doing Even More

The ideal of the ideal life is only an ideal if it is not lived out.  The beautiful Christian life is lovely when lived in all genuineness. People can see Jesus clearer, better in a Christian life well lived.

Am I progressing in my faith?

  • Is my heart still yearning for more of my Lord?

  • Is the Word of the Lord still my joy to know?

  • Is making Jesus known still forefront?

The journey of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour is a day by day living out our faith with and on His grace. It is a faith of the whole person (of the spirit, soul, mind and body). This is a loving, living faith in the living Christ in continuing strengthening.

Deeper Souls

 (7-28 August)

God wants to do a deeper work in our souls.  First, HE wants to take out from us, release us and to lift us up from the embedded hinderances in our lives.  In the month of August, we will look at the various beautiful exchanges - fears/insecurities, pride, unforgiveness and guilt/shame.

(Sep11 - Oct16)

Our souls must dig deep, laying a foundation of spiritual knowledge and experience that is anchored on the Rock that is Jesus Christ (Luke 6:47,48). Only then can we stand against the floods and storms of life.
